The All Burma Students Democratic Front (ABSDF) celebrated its 20th anniversary on November 1st 2008. It was one of the first students organizations to take up arms in pursuit of political objectives in their struggle against Burmas military regime. Since its formation in 1988 the ABSDF has been fighting for democracy in Burma. It is hard to capture the extent of the sufferings of the students army in the early stages of its formation in 1988 and 1989. Hiding in the jungles with no food, no clothes and no shelter were undoubtedly some of the most meaningful experiences and memories of their lives memories that will be passed down and remembered for generations. Many in the students army suffered from malaria and other diseases and many comrades lost their lives. Apart from fighting the Burmese Army, combating a lack of food, clothes, and medicine was a hard fight in and of itself. But, through spirit and commitment, the ABSDF now has reached 20 years in its fight for democracy in Burma. Ko Than Khe, Chairman of ABSDF, urged the international community to support and help them in their continued struggle for democracy.
