Kazakhstan is mainly known as part of the former Soviet Union, maybe as well as the biggest interior or also riparian state of the Aral Sea. A few people associate Kazakhstan with a wild lowlands and rough mountain ranges and this is very the Kazakh band ULYTAU starts off! Somewhere settled between traditional rhythms, classical elements and hard rocking sounds ULYTAU can easily be compared with artists like Apocalyptica, Korpklaani or In Extremo. Even though the 6 Kazakh abdicate singing to emphasize the connection between traditional sounds of the instrument Dombra, classics like the violin and the piano or the original instrumentation of guitar, bass and drums, ULYTAUs songs leave nothing to be desired. The band around violist Alua Makanova, consisting of ERzan Alimbetov (Dombra), Maxim Kitschigin (guitar), Roman Adonin (piano), Rafael Arslanov (drums) and Kanagat Abdukarymov (bass), was founded in 2001 by Kydryrali Bolmanov. Indonesian dancers present a traditional fan dance (tari kipas) from the nation's South Sulawesi region on the Coast Capital Savings Celebration Stage at the 2011 Surrey Fusion Festival held at Holland Park in Surrey, BC, Canada on Sunday, July 17, 2011. Despite bad weather and soggy grounds, the two-day festival celebrating music, food and culture attracted over 100000 people and featured 35 cultural pavilions and over 100 acts on four stages. The 2010 Surrey Fusion Festival, which attracted over 90000 people, was recently announced as the Best Cultural Event in Canada at the 2010 National Event Awards.

Ethnic music and dance are one and usually inseparable in the traditions of the different tribes that populated the Philippine Islands (7000 more or less) since hundreds of years ago before the arrival of the Spaniards in the 14th century and their subsequent 350 years of colonization through the Cross and Sword. It is with sadness though that these ethnic traditions are dying and seldom performed in their original forms. The 2009 National Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) (Nov.'09) was for the Category A Group (10-14 year olds) in the Traditional Philippine Ensembles, thus you will see these performed by the young. The 1st reflects the gong-chime traditions performed by Muslim tribes, like the maranao, maguindanao and the tausugs in Southern Philippines. The Mursi or Mursu people are the most popular in Ethiopia's Omo Valley. They are well known for their unique lip plates. They are settled around the Omo River and in the Mago National Park. Due to the climate, they move twice a year between the winter and summer months. They herd cattle and grow crops along the banks of the Omo River. Men of the Mursi also use white paint for their bodies and faces.

A visit to Kaziranga National Park in January of 2011 finds many Asiatic One-Horned Rhinoceroses, Asian Elephants, Indian Great Hornbill, Hog Deer, Barasingha/Swamp Deer, Smooth-Coated Otters, and the Fishing Cat (Khupya Bagh = Hindi name for this small Cat species). Enjoy!

The Buddhist monks who are portrayed as harbingers of peace and harmony actively participated in ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims. Thousands were raped and many were horribly killed. Many of the Buddhist monks were seen holding automatic rifles and guns, while Burmese inhabitants carried swords and incendiary objects. Those who tried escaping were arrested by local Police and army; they were later trialed in the courts by subjecting them to hang-till-death or shooting them dead. Even humanitarian NGOs were stopped by Buddhist monks, who went with food supplies and medicines. However, around 300 Rohingya Muslims fled their homes into forests; where they lived on wild fruits and leaves. Later through forests they could get in West Bengal -- Kolkata. He said that it was necessary to empower the women. He said this while addressing a mamoth public meeting of the women at the Bagh-i-Quaid-i-Azam beside the tomb of the father of the nation Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on 19th February 2012. Mr Hussain said that the historic women public meeting was the splendid display of national unity as women from all ethnic and religious backgrounds were present in the ground in the huge number. He said that it was a clear message for everyone that we are united and we will remain united under the flag of the MQM. Mr Hussain said that a new chapter has been written in the political history of the world in the shadow of the tomb of the Quaid-i-Azam by this mammoth meeting. He said that other political parties had been making tall claims about holding large public meeting in the Bagh-i-Quaid-i-Azam, but the MQM has demonstrated that even the women of the MQM were sufficient to meet the challenge of the opponents. Marlen Esparza not only qualified for London, but is the first American women to qualify for boxing, ever! Winning her final bout at the Women's World Championships held in May, Esparza qualified for the London Games. She is a four-time National Champion. Esparza competes at the flyweight, which is 51kg/112lbs. This 2008 Pan American Games Gold medalist has been fascinated with boxing since the age of 11. She believes she's where she needs to be and has already fought her matches in her head. Esparza explains how the feeling of competition makes her excited about London.

Rhythm(dance)performed: Dansa (diansa) is a beautiful rhythm and dance with origins in Kayes region of Mali. Traditionally played by griots from Khassonke ethnic group on khassonka (jeli) dundun and tamani. The typical orchestra consists of 2 dundun players and tamani players, while djembe is a modern addition. Lead dundunfola plays solo following the movements of the dancer and gives calls for other musicians. Dansa is one of the most beautiful and graceful dances I have ever seen. Here you have an excellent dundun fola, one of the greatest authorities in Bamako, Dramane Diabate. Hello Friends: I am writing to share my latest project with you, a documentary on the legendary California bandido Tiburcio Vasquez. Tiburcio Vasquez was born in Monterrey, California in 1835 and hanged by the state in 1875. Through Tiburcios life, the film will examine the social and political circumstances that Chicanos lived under after the American takeover in 1848. It is vital for our progress as a community to know where we have been and to educate other ethnic groups about Chicano history. My work-in-progress film, Tiburcio Vasquez: The Lost Bandido, is intended for national broadcast and educational distribution. It will provide an opportunity to document US history from a perspective that is lacking in historical works of 18th century Western history, the Chicanos perspective. This film will also present a white American perspective through newspaper accounts, law enforcement officials and historians. There will be enough evidence presented for both sides that will allow the audience to decide whether Tiburcio was a dangerous cutthroat or a revolutionary and social bandit. Traces of organized human life on the territory of Ruma municipality date back as far as the prehistory. The most important archaeological locality in the municipality is Bronze Age Gomolava[3] near Hrtkovci, with two exclusive tombs of Bosut culture dating to 9th century BC[4] and 3000BC Vučedol culture pottery[5]. First known inhabitants of this area were various peoples of Illyrian and Celtic origin, such as the Amantini, Breuci, Scordisci, etc. During Roman rule, local inhabitants lost their ethnic character and adopted Roman culture. There were no larger Roman settlements on the territory of Ruma, but a certain number of agricultural estates known as "villae rusticae" were located there. Migrations of Huns, Germanic peoples, Avars and Slavs destroyed the Roman culture in this area. During the following centuries, the region was ruled by Frankish Empire, Bulgarian Empire, Byzantine Empire and Kingdom of Hungary. The settlement named Ruma was first mentioned in an Ottoman defter from 1566/7. In that period Ruma was a village inhabited by Serbs, with 49 houses a church and three priests. [2] Since 1718, Ruma was under administration of the Habsburg Monarchy. In 1746, the town of Ruma was founded near the village of Ruma.
