I completed this film on AIDS a couple of years ago I directed, produced and edited itwhile in grad school. "Echoes of Yourself in The Mirror: AIDS The Long Journey to Good Bye"; gives an overview of where we are at with the pandemic currently. As well as what was going in the early days of San Francisco's effort to figure out what they were dealing with and how to stop it. Cleve Jones, the creator the National AIDS Memorial Quilt is one of the major speakers in the movie. As is Dr. Andrew Jolivette an assistant professor in the American Indian Studies Department a part of the Ethnic Studies Program at San Francisco State University. During our filming in 2005 Dr. Jolivette disclosed his HIV/AIDS positive status. The speech that followed during World AIDS Day has been called riveting. Andrew and Cleve both speak to the impact of: poverty, gender roles, stigma, media access, social activism, patent law, reliable information, youth and medical access on HIV/AIDS transmission. The world has grown and shrank all at the same time. Derethia Duval says in our interview "The fact that you can fly around the world in a day means that what happens in Africa or Asia impacts me. If some one over there is suffering from AIDS then I am suffering from AIDS. . . " The film examines the dramatic problems that young people and marginalized community are facing. You will find the issues facing our various communities well addressed in this project from the points of view of young women ...
