The Ghao Xiong are the ancestors of the Hmong and Mien. The Ghao Xiong language shows both Hmong and Mien grammar. Today, the Ghao Xiong are part of the Miao Nationality and are closely related to the Hmong people. Live in Hunan the eastern part of Guizhou. They speak the Xiangxi regional dialect of the Miao Nationality. The Ghao Xiong (Qos Xyoob) is probably the most educated and economically stable of the other Miao subgroups. They live mostly in Hunan province. Song Zhuying, one of the most well-known Chinese singers, is from Hunan and a member of the Goshiong subgroup. Song Zhuying is one of the most recognized faces in today China as she sings patriotic songs in almost every major national event in China. Wu Xiaoping, who has visited the Hmong in the United States many times, is also from Hunan. In general, Qoshiong or Guoxiong speak in the eastern or western Hunan branch, and the central branch of the Miao language. Famous Ghao Xiong are "Wu Ba Yue" or Vwj Pa Yias, a well known Hmong leader in Hmong history during Qing Dynasty. Song Zuying, China's famous folk singer is a Ghao Xiong from Hunan Province. Shen Congwen, Famous Chinese writer from Hunan Province. Long Xian-Er, Miao folk singer is also a Ghao Xiong. During Chinese Gov't oppression, the Ghao Xiong were banned from practicing their customs, traditions, religion and playing the Qeej (Lusheng). This is why today, the Ghao Xiong do not play the lusheng or reed pipe instrument.
