Sri Lanka Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse speaking in furious emotions to BBC interviewer dismissed international call for war crimes investigations into the final stage of war against LTTE in May 2009. He denied any war crime charges and accusations from anywhere in the world, regardless whether they origin from United Nations or any other country. He will never allow any (war crimes) investigations in Sri Lankan neither will he allow security officer to send to war investigation because there is no reason to have investigations. The needs of the moment are not investigations but development, bring peace to the country and national reconciliation. In response to the first question about denying that OBL was hiding in Pakistan during his tenure, he said he never denied that OBL was in Pakistan. He said he used to say "I don't know." He said it surprised and shocked him that OBL was found in Pakistan. He said it was an "acute negligence of the highest order." It was not complicity and whoever was responsible, should be punished. He said Pakistan thinks its sovereignty has been violated by the killing of OBL, and this is an issue that needs to be resolved in the interest of the war on terror. He said to achieve common goals in the region the cooperation between ISI and CIA is very important. Mr. Musharraf said that ISI has 30 years of experience in Afghanistan. Therefore this cooperation is essential to fight the war on terror successfully.
