Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks speaks on interfaith dialogue in multicultural Britain Tube. Duration : 3.62 Mins.

On Thursday 8th September, Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks spoke in a debate in the House of Lords on improving interfaith dialogue in multicultural Britain. "My Lords, I thank the noble Lord, Lord Mitchell, for initiating this important and necessary debate. I go back to words said by an expert on the subject 2600 years ago. His name was Jeremiah and he became known as a prophet of gloom. Were he to return to life today, doubtless he would be an economist. He was the first person to analyse the situation many find themselves in today of being a minority in a culture whose beliefs are not their own. Jeremiah wrote a letter to the Jewish exiles in Babylon in which he said: "Seek the welfare of the city to which you have gone and pray to God on its behalf, for in its peace and prosperity you will find peace and prosperity". He told them in effect: "Maintain your identity while contributing to the common good. Be true to your faith while being a blessing to others regardless of their faith". That is the challenge today. The good news about religion is that it creates communities based on altruism and trust. It teaches people to make sacrifices for the sake of others. It builds social capital. The bad news is that every community divides as it unites, because for every "us" there is a "them"-the people not like us. The best way to improve interfaith dialogue in multicultural Britain is to create a sense of national identity so strong that it brings different ethnic and religious ...

Carl Sagan on "Who speaks for Earth?" Tube. Duration : 8.53 Mins.

Who speaks for Earth? "In our tenure on this planet, we've accumulated dangerous evolutionary baggage; propensities for agression and ritual, submission to leaders, hostility to outsiders; all of which puts our survival in some doubt. We've also acquired compassion for others, love for our children, a desire to learn from histroy and experience, and a great soaring passionate intelligence; the clear tools for our continued survival and prosperity." "National boundaries are not evident when we view the Earth from space. Fanatic ethnic, or religious, or national identifications are a little difficult to support when we see our planet as a fragile blue crescent fading to become an inconspicuous point of light against the bastion and citadel of the stars." - Carl Sagan. This clip comes from Carl Sagan's Cosmos episode 13, "Who Speaks For Earth?"

postheadericon George Galloway speaks to closeted racist man (and possibly BNP voter)

George Galloway speaks to closeted racist man (and possibly BNP voter) Tube. Duration : 4.62 Mins.

George Galloway starts a conversation with a closeted racist man (the white Anglo Saxon Protestant). The latter claims there are 5 million illegal immigrants, which Galloway points out it is nothing but racist trash. It is apparent that the caller's wife was timing him when he will call him a racist. The possible owner of an Adolf Hitler blow-up is then dismissed by Galloway at the end of the call. Originally broadcasted on 8th August 2009.

Indochina war Video Clips. Duration : 50.25 Mins.

The First Indochina War (also known as the French Indochina War, Anti-French War, Franco-Vietnamese War, Franco-Vietminh War, Indochina War, Dirty War in France, and Anti-French Resistance War in contemporary Vietnam) was fought in French Indochina from December 19, 1946, until August 1, 1954, between the French Union's French Far East Expeditionary Corps, led by France and supported by Emperor Bảo Đại's Vietnamese National Army against the Việt Minh, led by Hồ Chí Minh and Võ Nguyên Giáp. Most of the fighting took place in Tonkin in Northern Vietnam, although the conflict engulfed the entire country and also extended into the neighboring French Indochina protectorates of Laos and Cambodia. Following the reoccupation of Indochina by the French following the end of World War II, the area having fallen to the Japanese, the Việt Minh launched a rebellion against the French authority governing the colonies of French Indochina. The first few years of the war involved a low-level rural insurgency against French authority. However, after the Chinese communists reached the Northern border of Vietnam in 1949, the conflict turned into a conventional war between two armies equipped with modern weapons supplied by the United States and the Soviet Union. French Union forces included colonial troops from the whole former empire (Moroccan, Algerian, Tunisian, Laotian, Cambodian, and Vietnamese ethnic minorities), French professional troops and units of the French Foreign Legion. The use ...

postheadericon Exclusive: Insurgent Outfit UMLA Speaks Out

Exclusive: Insurgent Outfit UMLA Speaks Out Tube. Duration : 3.27 Mins.

Video Volunteers has become the first media organization to get access to the camp of United Minority Liberation Army (UMLA), an armed insurgent group fighting for a separate state in Manipur, North East India. The story was reported by Daniel Mate, a community correspondent trained by Video Volunteers, an organization that enables people from the poorest communities to report on their community issues. The North East of India, where Daniel is from, is home to dozens of tribal groups that are fighting for independence from India. The UMLA represents one of these tribes called Kuki that is willing to stay within India, but wants larger autonomy within the constitution. The leader of the insurgent group agreed to the interview only after he learnt that Daniel was a Kuki and that the interview would be a part of IndiaUnheard -- a program that publishes community stories as they are told. Watch the video here "It's the first time ever that this group has spoken to the media. They chose me because they trusted me. As a member of the same tribe, I understand what he is fighting for. We are a minority tribe and we frequently face ethnic violence from other groups who deny our rights to the land and natural resources of our state. When the insurgents learnt that IndiaUnheard was a program for the oppressed and the marginalized communities, they felt that it was the right forum for them to speak. They said that I would present their views without any prejudice. Their commander ...

postheadericon Suu Kyi speaks about party platform on state media

Suu Kyi speaks about party platform on state media Tube. Duration : 2.02 Mins.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi called for "freedom from fear" and further moves towards democracy in her first televised election campaign speech. "Unless people get human rights with freedom from fear, a democratic system cannot be established and developed," Ms Suu Kyi said, echoing the title of her well-known political essay, Freedom from Fear. "Only under the rule of law can people really feel the taste of freedom by really getting protection of the law," she said, ahead of April 1 by-elections in which the pro-democracy icon is standing for parliament for the first time. The speech was censored by Burma's authorities to remove criticism of the former junta, the democracy icon said. Ms Suu Kyi, who spent much of the past 22 years under house arrest, also called for the abolition of laws which have "oppressed the people." "We have to write and enact laws that can protect the people," she said. The Burmese-language speech was leaked online ahead of its official broadcast. Seated in front of an National League for Democracy flag, the Nobel peace prize winner also called for a ceasefire to bring an end to the country's long-running conflicts with ethnic minority guerrilla armies. 15 March 2012.
