Documentary | The Island of Cyprus - National Geographic Tube. Duration : 43.87 Mins.

UrbanTV Cyprus Presents - Part of National Geographic's series on "Islands - Cyprus" Find us on Facebook: www.facebook.com Info - The Cyprus dispute is the result of the ongoing conflict between the Republic of Cyprus and Turkey, over the Turkish occupied northern part of Cyprus.[1] Initially, with the annexation of the island by the British Empire, the "Cyprus dispute" was identified as the conflict between the people of Cyprus and the British Crown regarding the Cypriots' demand for self determination. The dispute however was finally shifted from a colonial dispute to an ethnic dispute between the Turkish and the Greek islanders.[2] The international complications of the dispute stretch far beyond the boundaries of the island of Cyprus itself and involve the guarantor powers (Turkey, Greece, and the United Kingdom alike), along with the United States, the United Nations and the European Union. With Turkey's military action of 1974 (disapproved by UN Security Council Resolution 1974/360),[4] Turkey occupied the northern part of the internationally recognised Republic of Cyprus, and later upon those territories the Turkish Cypriot community unilaterally declared independence forming the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), a sovereign entity that lacks international recognition-with the exception of Turkey with which TRNC enjoys full diplomatic relations. After the two communities and the guarantor countries have committed themselves in finding a peaceful solution ...

Army Blackhawk Helicopter Lands at South Side Park Video Clips. Duration : 6.65 Mins.

The 9th Police District has had National Night Out every August for several years now -- just not quite like this! 9th Police District Officer Al Garza spent 2 months filing government and military paperwork so that this Blackhawk military helicopter could land at Cornell Square Park at 51st and Wood, where the fair was being held on Tuesday, August 4. I actually had to work the fair this year, handing out free ice cream to several hundred children (and their parents) who had seemingly been fasting for the previous week, but I wasn't about to miss shooting video of this. After it landed, with amazingly little backwash, the crew gave tours of the copter for an hour-and-a-half. The neighborhoods surrounding Cornell Square Park are mostly poor and working-class, and these National Nights Out are attended by a melting pot of just about every ethnic group imaginable - this was probably the first time some of these kids or their parents had been near or in any kind of aircraft, either on the ground or aloft. An exciting evening all around. The dialogue toward the end is courtesy of my very enthusiastic neighbor, Mrs. Allison;-) Part Two -- the takeoff -- is coming soon to a YouTube screen near you. Iraq Debate: Closing argument, Chas Freeman Video Clips. Duration : 2.00 Mins.

If we continue with our current policy in Iraq, there will continue to be ethnic cleansing and displacement of Iraqi civilians, death of American troops, and a decline in America's leadership internationally and our ability to deal with threats elsewhere. We will continue to feed hatred that will increase American enemies. If, however, we can play on the fears of Iraq's neighbors that they might be dragged into a larger regional war if we withdraw, or implicated in the anarchy that will result in Iraq, then we will have a basis to conduct a regional deal that allows us to leave Iraq with some honor. The biggest losers in that case would be al Qaida, its recruitment efforts, and Iran.

Thailand at the limit: One year after the April-May 2010 protests Video Clips. Duration : 118.40 Mins.

Just over a year ago, in the midst of the stand-off among Thai government forces, red-shirted members of the United Democratic Front Against Dictatorship (UDD), and other murky actors, Thai Studies scholars at ANU gathered for 'Thailand on the Verge' [See video here: www.youtube.com to talk about the unfolding crisis in the streets. One year later, Thailand is no longer on the verge. Long-term crises -- the rise in the use of terrorist tactics and the laws to address them, economic inequality, and the precarity of ethnic minorities and migrants -- remain unresolved. In this video scholars from the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific and the ANU College of Law discuss the political, economic, historic, and cultural limits of the present situation.
