The Israeli Police demolished the Arab Bedouin village of Al-Arakib for the third time in two weeks to clear space for a Jewish National Fund forest. And for the third time, the residents of Al-Arakib rebuilt their destroyed homes alongside Jewish Israeli activists. Their history is a chain of unsuccessful uprisings for independence. It tells about genocide, forcible assimilation, deportation and life in exile. After the defeat of the Ottomans in 1918, the British forces occupied almost all of present day Middle East. Woodrow Wilson in his Fourteen Point Program for World Peace (point 12) stated that non-Turkish minorities of the Ottoman Empire should be 'assured of an absolute unmolested opportunity of autonomous development.' The Treaty of Sevres signed in August 1920 gave a great hope to the Kurds and brought them closer to statehood. But the peace conference at Lausanne in November 1922, which was finalized in treaty in July 1923 disappointed the Kurdish delegation. The defeated Turkey secured a position to impose demands on the conference and categorically rejected the recognition of the national rights of the Kurds. The Allies satisfied with their own gains were happy to please Turkey for two reasons; first, Mustafa Kamal who emerged as a leader advocated the idea of westernizing Turkey and second the Allies wanted from Turkey to block the influence of Soviet Marxism in the region. In Ethiopia a separatist war is taking place far from media headlines around the world. The Ogaden conflict has claimed thousands of lives and is being called the next Darfur by some. The Ogaden region of Ethiopia lies between Oromia to the west, the Republic of Djibouti to the north, Kenya to the south and the Somali Republic to the east. It is home to approximately five million people, who are for the most part ethnic Somali nomads. Over the past two years, the conflict has escalated following the Ogaden National Liberation Front's (ONLF) attack on a Chinese-run oil exploration field that resulted in the death of 74 Ethiopian guards and Chinese workers. Since then, the area has been closed off by the Ethiopian army. The armed ONLF resistance began in 1994 when they broached the idea of splitting from Ethiopia. The central government then imprisoned Ogadeni leaders and has since labeled them as terrorists, linking them to al-Qaeda. The Ogadeni allege assassinations, torture and rape at the hands of the Ethiopian solders. Joining the programme to discuss the ongoing conflict will be Fowsia Abdulkadir, an independent researcher and human rights activist who testified before the US Congress on the situation in the Ogaden region, Gregory Stanton, the founder and president of Genocide Watch and the president of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, and David Shinn, the former US ambassador to Ethiopia and co-author of A Historical Dictionary of Ethiopia.

It provides language services to nongovernmental organizations like Doctors Without Borders. The group recently trained some new translators in Nairobi in how to translate health information into local languages for Kenyans. For health translators, finding the rights words is not only about language. It is also about culture. Muthoni Gichohi is a manager for Family Health Options Kenya, the group that organized the training. She says she has no problem expressing the names of body parts in English. But, as a member of the Kikuyu ethnic group, she says there are some words in her first language that could cause problems if she says them in public. So, she finds a way to deliver the same message with different words.Trainer Paul Warambo says the same issue arises with one of Kenya's national languages, Swahili. He says, in Swahili, people use euphemisms to describe some words. A euphemism is a harmless word, name or phrase that replaces another word that may be offensive. Drazen Petrovic and Vlade Divac were two friends who grew up together sharing the common bond of basketball. Together, they lifted the Yugoslavian National team to unimaginable heights. After conquering Europe, they both went to America where they became the first two foreign players to attain NBA stardom. But with the fall of the Soviet Union on Christmas Day 1991, Yugoslavia split up. A war broke out between Petrovic's Croatia and Divac's Serbia. Long buried ethnic tensions surfaced. Engkanto was formed mid 2008 and plays world music, particularly ethno tribal and local Philippine natural music. It was formed by Rodney Formaran, Norman Labaguis, Nerissa Zabanal and Mark Cesario. They get along with the other members connected to their former band. All of the members came from the same band in different occasions. Contained in the music Engkanto plays some ethnic dance which the group practices in every gig. This includes the national dance patterns from different provinces and tribes. Also practiced during gigs is the POI or FIRE dance. It makes the audience more interested with the band. The group plays ethnic instruments like djembe, ashiko, kalimba, didjiridoo, sordo, doumbek, kubing (jaw harp), rain stick, water chimes, and shekere, among others. As the band plays along, it has been sorted out that the band collaborates with the reggae scene and eventually replaces their former basis. The fusion makes the music more lively and catchy. Faraz: birth place Kohat, an ethnic Sayed pashtoon ,had his education in Edward College Peshawar and Peshawar University where he was granted, MA in urdu and M,A in farsi.. he was appointed lecturer in urdu department of the same university later..he spoke hinko pashto urdu and farsi in addition to fluent english. Faraz' poetry was a reflection of his life and that of his country-men,who witnessed the tragic events preceding separation of East Pakistan,martial law and military dictatorships one after the other. He dreamed and yearned for democracy,national unity and justice.He spent some time in jail and six years of exile from pakistan,that helped him collect award after award and help complete a collection of poetry that he called "mohasara".
